Protect Your Ornamental and Edible Gardens Against Pests

When pests show up in your garden, they're never welcome. When you least expect it, you catch them feeding on your favorite flower or munching a garden edible you're patiently waiting to pick. By that time, the damage is already done — but it doesn't have to be that way.

With a hand from Sevin® brand, you can create a perimeter of two-way protection around your edible and ornamental plants and put a stop to pests and their damage.

Perimeter Pest Protection for Edibles and Ornamentals

Ornamental gardens overflowing with fragrant blooms, from roses to hydrangeas, are ripe targets for common garden pests. From aphids to Japanese beetles, damaging insects can quickly destroy otherwise healthy stems, leaves and blooms. Garden edibles like your favorite crunchy cucumbers or juicy red tomatoes look just as tasty to destructive pests. To protect your gardens against pest damage, you need control for existing insects and those that haven't shown up quite yet.

With Sevin Garden Perimeter Insect Killer Granules, you get a powerful ally that creates a barrier of pest protection around your garden edibles and ornamentals to protect in two ways. First, these easy-to-use granules kill existing listed garden pests. Then they keep working to prevent new damage by those same pests for up to 3 months. All without harming your plants or blooms*.

Sevin Garden Perimeter Insect Killer Granules kill and control more than 100 listed insects by contact and protect more than 175 fruits, vegetables, flowers, groundcovers and ornamental shrubs and plants, including pollinator plants.

With the convenient shaker container, it's as simple as finding the proper rate for your pest on the label, shaking the perimeter granules into place, and watering the treated areas to help release their active ingredients into the soil.

Kill Active Edible and Ornamental Garden Pests

Even if you're new to gardening, you've probably discovered that some pests seem tougher to kill than others — or they're harder to reach if they spend time below ground. With Sevin Garden Perimeter Insect Killer Granules, you can kill listed pests above ground level and in their hiding places down in the soil.

When you find active pests in your yard or garden, take time to identify them so you can adjust the application rate for your perimeter and make sure you get the results you want. The GardenTech® website has a special Pest ID section to help you identify your mystery pest and learn more about the damage they do and how to control them best. You can search by pest type and location.

For pests like damaging grasshoppers and cutworms, lower application rates shown on the Sevin Garden Perimeter Insect Killer Granules label do the trick. But tougher pests, like mole crickets and grubs, call for the higher label rates. Either way, it's still as simple as shaking the container to create a perimeter of protection and watering the granules in.

With Sevin Garden Perimeter Insect Killer Granules, you can treat the perimeters around your gardens to keep insect pests out. If you have ticks in your area — including deer ticks and other ticks that may transmit pathogens related to Lyme disease — create a perimeter of protection to guard against existing ticks and new ticks that try to come in.

Prevent Edible and Ornamental Garden Pests and Their Damage

Prevention is always the best line of defense against pests that target your garden plants. By creating perimeters of protection around your gardens, you can prevent new generations of pests — and pest damage from new arrivals. The same steps that kill existing listed pests take care of preventing those listed pests for up to 3 months.

For preventative applications in your fruit and vegetable gardens, you can apply Sevin Garden Perimeter Insect Killer Granules just prior to planting or after plants emerge. Follow label instructions for the proper rate, then distribute the granules evenly and work them into the top 4 to 6 inches of soil. Water the treated area immediately for best results.

Whenever you use Sevin Garden Perimeter Insect Killer Granules to create protective perimeters around edible plants, pay close attention to the Preharvest Intervals (PHIs for short) listed on the product label. The PHI is the amount of time you need to wait between applying any pesticide product and harvesting your edible crop. PHIs vary depending on the crop and the product involved.

For cucumbers or zucchini squash, for example, wait 3 days after you apply Sevin Garden Perimeter Insect Killer Granules before you make menu plans and harvest those crops. For homegrown bell peppers or head lettuce, allow 7 days. If you're treating root vegetables, like carrots or sweet potatoes, your PHI is 21 days. For tomatoes, one day's wait is long enough. These guidelines apply whether your edibles are in your first vegetable garden or mingling with ornamental plants in an edible landscape.

With perimeters of protection around your ornamentals and edibles, instead of pests eating your prize plants, you and your family can enjoy the blooms and food. Generations of gardeners have trusted Sevin brand garden insecticides to protect their gardens and lawns against harmful pests. Have questions about pest control? We'd love to hear from you. Let us help you plant a love for gardening in the next generation, too.
